Habitat
My work is primarily inspired by a connection to my immediate surroundings on the Pacific Northwest coastal region of BC. Through the exploration of ancient temperate rainforest near my home, I feel a real sense that all vegetation is intertwined and essential to the survival of plants, animals and humans. Decades of new growth have been nurtured by Mother trees, remnants of ancient cedars harvested during the last century. New information about the earth via scientific data and modern historical records, reveal layers of meaning that have been buried or hidden for generations. There is far more woven into the fabric of our environment than meets the eye. I’m interested in observing how landscape and wildlife are impacted by climate change, development, land management and industry. Through my volunteer work with the Squamish Environment Society and as a member of Artists for Conservation, I learn and witness the power of advocacy.
